The Tigers are out of the Cage, Frenship Football Snags Win in Four Overtimes

Head Football Coach, Jay Northcutt, feels nothing but gratitude to claim the victory over the Plainsmen.

“There’s a lot of ways to win a football game and luckily we found a way to win,” said Coach Northcutt. “I’m proud of our kids and how they continue to hang in the game and fight. We were fortunate to come out with a victory. I appreciate Coach Thrash and his staff; they came in with a great game plan, and we had a really hard time stopping their run game. We’re lucky to win this one.”

Frenship had 563 passing yards, and Monterey had 560 rushing yards. That was something Coach Northcutt had never experienced offensively before.

“These types of games are definitely unique, especially with the two styles of offense in the game,” said Coach Northcutt.

Thinking ahead to the next play was exactly what the Tigers channeled as they went back and forth with the Plainsmen into four overtimes.

“You never know how a game is going to go until you get in the middle of it. You have to be looking on to the next play and what is coming to be prepared. That is exactly what our team did,” said Northcutt.

This Friday, September 15, the Tigers will celebrate their Homecoming as they face Abilene High School. The game starts at 7:00 p.m. at Peoples Bank Stadium. For information on Homecoming events click here.

Although the Tigers have made a strong stride so far this season, they want to stay humble and be prepared for the next competition.

“One thing that always sticks out when you play Abilene is their unique defense. This year they have taken a big jump offensively too. They present a big challenge, maybe one of the biggest challenges we’ve seen so far offensively,” said Coach Northcutt. “We talked about Monterey being a trap game for us coming off the Cooper win. That is something we have to remind ourselves of when facing Abilene. When you see Abilene on film you know you better get ready because they are a good team.”
