Entering his 20th year of coaching with eight years of experience as a head coach in girls’ athletics, Roberts will bring a wealth of knowledge to the FHS Girls Athletic Program. Nearly half of his coaching career has been spent as a Frenship Tiger, helping lead his student athletes to multiple district championships and playoff wins. Most recently, he has served as the FHS Boys Varsity Basketball Assistant Coach for six years and held other coaching positions such as FHS Volleyball Assistant Coach, FHS Track Coach, and Heritage Middle School Girls Athletic Coordinator.
As he steps into this new role, Roberts says he is excited to carry on the momentum built by Coach Trent Hilliard, who is retiring at the end of this school year after 35 years of coaching, with 12 of those as the FHS Girls Basketball Head Coach and Girls Athletic Coordinator.
“Trent has done an amazing job, and I wish him the best in his next adventure,” said Roberts. “I could not be more excited to continue the tradition of excellence with the girls’ basketball program and the girls’ athletic program as a whole.”
In addition to the head coaching position, he will also be responsible for overseeing and supporting all FHS girls sports as the Girls Athletic Coordinator and ensuring the continued success of the growing program.
“I want our Frenship families to know that I am going to work hard to bring out the best of these girls on the court. I will work with all our great coaches to ensure the best environment for all our student athletes,” said Roberts. “I am very honored to have been blessed with this opportunity, and I do not take the responsibility lightly. It’s a great day to be a Tiger!”
Roberts received his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at Lubbock Christian University, where he played basketball in the NAIA Division I conference from 1999 to 2003, earning multiple awards as an athlete and a spot in the Elite 8 after a Conference Championship in 2001. He later earned his Master of Science in Sports Administration at Arkansas State University.
Roberts is a proud Tiger with deep roots in Frenship. He and his wife, Kathy, a Frenship Special Education teacher, have four children: Riley, a 2021 FHS graduate; Reagan, a 2024 FHS graduate; Reese, a current FHS junior; and Hunter, a Frenship Middle School 7th grader.
Congratulations, Chris Roberts! Frenship is excited to welcome you into this leadership role and looks forward to the continued growth and success of our girls athletic programs under your direction.
