Frenship ISD Announces Joel Thompson as Director of Facilities

Thompson earned both his Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and Master of Education in Educational Administration from Lubbock Christian University. His career in education began right here at Frenship ISD, where he completed his student teaching in 1998, marking the start of a journey that would ultimately come full circle.

Over the course of 28 years, Thompson has dedicated his career to shaping students’ lives both in and out of the classroom. He spent eight years at Ropes ISD as a Social Studies and U.S. History teacher while also coaching football, basketball, and track. He then continued his career at Whiteface CISD for nine years, teaching Social Studies and U.S. History and coaching basketball, cross country, and track.

In 2015, Thompson came back to Frenship to serve as assistant principal at Frenship High School, where he has played a vital role in supporting students, staff, and families for the past 11 years. Reflecting on his time at FHS, Thompson shared, “I’ve loved serving with amazing people who are truly committed to helping students succeed.”

In his new role as Director of Facilities, Thompson said he is eager to continue making a districtwide impact, maintaining and enhancing the facilities that support learning across the district.

“I’m excited to work with an incredible team that serves the entirety of Frenship,” Thompson said.

His connection to Frenship runs even deeper through his family. Thompson’s daughter, Molly, graduated from Frenship High School in 2023. His son, Troy, is a current senior set to graduate in 2026, and his youngest son, Luke, is a sophomore in the Class of 2028.

"What I love most about Frenship is that it is filled with great people," Thompson said. "It honestly has that small-town, community feel about it."

Colleagues describe Thompson as a steady, servant-hearted leader who consistently puts students first, which reflects his well-rounded commitment to creating safe and supportive learning environments.

As he steps into this new leadership role, Thompson remains grounded in gratitude for the community he serves. “I love working with and for the people in this district,” he said. “It is a blessing to walk alongside them. Frenship ISD has been an incredible blessing to my family and me.”

With his experience, leadership, and heart for service, Thompson is well-positioned to help maintain and enhance the facilities that support learning across Frenship ISD—ensuring every student and staff member has a safe, welcoming place to succeed.

Please join us in congratulating Joel Thompson on this well-deserved appointment and continued service to Frenship ISD.
