Special education students from across Region 17 come together each year for Adaptive Field Day, a fun-filled event designed to promote inclusion, teamwork, and community. This year, Frenship ISD hosted the event at Peoples Bank Stadium, welcoming more than 400 students who spent the day rotating through a variety of activity stations, including bowling, tug-of-war, soccer, bean bag toss, and more.

Frenship High School Adaptive PE teacher Aaron Tomlinson explained that events like the Adaptive Field Day play a vital role in supporting inclusion and student growth.

“For students with disabilities, it provides an opportunity to participate, shine, and be celebrated for their unique strengths and abilities,” said Tomlinson. “These events help build friendships, promote physical activity, and create a sense of belonging for every student.”

This year marks the 5th year Frenship ISD hosted the event, with dozens of student volunteers from Frenship High School and Frenship Memorial High School helping man the stations.

Tomlinson reflected on the impact of the day, sharing how meaningful it was to see students work together.

“It was inspiring to see student volunteers from both Frenship High and Memorial come together with the shared goal of supporting and celebrating students with disabilities,” said Tomlinson. “Their teamwork showed that when we unite for a purpose, collaboration truly extends beyond school walls.”

Events like the Adaptive Field Day are made possible through the support of sponsors and community partners. Tomlinson shared that this year, Parkhill generously provided shirts for all Frenship students, helping celebrate the day with big cat spirit and community pride.

“A big thank-you to everyone who helped make Field Day possible,” said Tomlinson. “From volunteers and staff to students, families, and our sponsor Parkhill. It takes a team, and what a great one we have!”

Field days allow students with disabilities to participate alongside their peers in a fun, community-centered environment. These experiences help students feel included, valued, and part of the school culture.

Frenship ISD is proud to continue hosting this meaningful event, celebrating the joy, teamwork, and unity that make the Adaptive Field Day a highlight of the year for students, staff, and families across Region 17.
