This contest is an A+ Academic program as a part of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) organization and was designed specifically for elementary and middle school students. The A+ Academic program is meant to be the first step in a student's Academic UIL journey. The program allows students to gain experience in academic contests at a younger age, with the goal of continuing to compete in UIL when they get to high school.   

The students try out for the teams in September and then turn around to compete in November. This contest gives the students a chance to show their knowledge of content in traditional events like math, calculator applications, science, and social studies. It also provides students with the opportunity to learn and compete in events that are outside the normal topics they learn at school such as chess puzzle, speaking events (oral reading, impromptu speaking, and modern oratory), number sense (entirely mental math), listening skills, etc.   

Each year, Frenship and Lubbock-Cooper come together to put on this contest for over 600 students across both districts. Frenship hosted six schools for the middle school contests and Lubbock-Cooper hosted 13 for the elementary contest. 

“It truly takes everyone to make this event run,” stated Sarah Burleson, Frenship ISD Science Coordinator. “We appreciate each and every one of our volunteers!” 

From students, coaches, and volunteers, everyone had a fantastic time and a successful day of contests. The overall results of the Academic UIL meet are below.  

Elementary Overall Campus Places:
